Save-the-Date & Conference Topics
The Ohio Mediation Association is excited to announce our 2018 Annual Conference! The Conference will be held on April 27th, 2018, at the Bob Evans headquarters and corporate center just outside of Columbus.
Following the positive reaction to the two-topic format of our 2017 Conference, we will again be providing variety and flexibility with two speakers.
Morning Session: Negotiating with People in Crisis
Our Conference will begin with a trained crisis negotiator describing techniques for verbal de-escalation and quick rapport-building. As it turns out, the FBI and other law enforcement agencies have been on the cutting edge of understanding people in crisis and how to influence them to adopt a calm, rational mindset. This talk will include exciting, unforgettable examples of crisis negotiation skills at work that will help mediators face high-conflict, high-emotion disputes.
Afternoon Session: Zena Zumeta Advanced Class
The Conference will end with an advanced mediation training by the nationally-renowned Zena Zumeta. Zena has been mediating for 35 years, has taught thousands of mediators, has held adjunct teaching positions at two law schools, and has received numerous awards from national ADR organizations. As part of her Mediation Training & Consultation Institute, Zena has developed a number of advanced trainings for experienced mediators.
We look forward to seeing you on April 27, 2018
Sign up for April 27th Conference by April 15th
We would like to give you another two weeks to take advantage of our early-bird rate of $65 for a half-day and $110 for the full day for our 2018 Annual Conference on April 27th. If you don’t mind paying the $80 half-day or $140 full-day, we will take credit card payments (in addition to cash/check) at the event, but we ask that you email us so that we can order the correct number of lunches.
Our morning speaker is a trained and experienced crisis negotiator who will describe the methods used in hostage situations to talk people down from crisis to resolution. Not only is this presentation exciting, but mediators will find many parallels between the basic approach of crisis negotiation and mediation.
Our afternoon speaker is a nationally renowned expert on the process of conflict coaching. Conflict coaching applies the mediator’s toolkit in a way that teaches clients to better process and react to conflict. It is an extra skill that will allow mediators to expand services offered and help clients to manage conflict away from the mediation table.
